How to File Your Tax Return in Singapore

Published 25 July 2026 Β· 5 min read Β· πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¬ Singapore

Filing in Singapore is often faster than people expect β€” many employees don't even need to actively file, thanks to the Auto-Inclusion Scheme. Here's how it actually works.

STEP 01

Check if you need to file at all

If your income is fully covered under the Auto-Inclusion Scheme (AIS) β€” where your employer submits your income data directly to IRAS β€” and you have no other income to declare, you may not need to file anything. IRAS will notify you if action is required.

STEP 02

Log in to myTax Portal with Singpass

If you do need to file, log in to the myTax Portal using your Singpass. Employment income under AIS will already be pre-filled.

STEP 03

Declare additional income

Add any income not automatically included β€” rental income, freelance/trade income, or overseas income remitted to Singapore in specific circumstances.

STEP 04

Claim your reliefs

Enter details for reliefs you're eligible for β€” spouse, child, parent, course fees β€” beyond what's automatically applied. See our Tax Reliefs Guide for the full list.

STEP 05

Review your Notice of Assessment preview and submit

myTax shows an estimated outcome before submission. Review it, then submit β€” filing typically takes under 15 minutes for straightforward returns.

Know your numbers before you file.

Use the Income Tax Calculator β†’

Paying your tax bill

Once your Notice of Assessment is issued, you can pay via GIRO (which allows interest-free installments), PayNow, or other methods within the payment deadline. See our IRAS Tax Deadlines guide for exact dates.

GENERAL GUIDANCE

This is a general walkthrough of the standard filing process, not a substitute for IRAS's own instructions. For complex situations (multiple income sources, overseas income), consider professional advice.
